CALEB WESTBERRY, CSA
(NOAH2, MOSES1) was born November 04, 1841 in Wayne Co, Georgia,
and died June 06, 1926 in Wayne Co, Georgia. He married (1) MARY
ELIZABETH REDDISH December 02, 1874 in Wayne Co, Georgia. She
was born December 22, 1844 in Georgia, and died June 09, 1904
in Wayne Co, Georgia. He married (2) MRS. DORINDA PRICE Abt. 1905.
She was born February 06, 1861, and died January 09, 1919.

Caleb Westberry joined the Confederate Army on Sept. 9, 1861,
and was a private in Capt. Billop's Co. of "Georgia Foresters".
He also appears on a muster roll of Co. "B", 1st Reg.
defending Macon, Georgia in Nov. and Dec. of 1865.
Caleb was wounded on Nov. 30, 1864 near Atlanta, and was discharged
in 1865. He received a pension for his service, and in 1907, the
"Southern Cross of Honor". Caleb is buried next to his
first wife in the Red Hill Cemetery, Wayne Co., Georgia.
Westberry, Caleb -- Private - September 9, 1861. Pension records
show he was wounded in right hip near Kennesaw Mountain, Georgia,
June 1864, and was at home on wounded furlough close of war. (Born
in Wayne County, Georgia in 1842.)

Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia
Caleb Westberry joined the Confederate Army on September 9, 1861
and was a private in Captain Billop's Company, the Georgia Foresters.
He enlisted at Savannah, Georgia via Lieutenant Colonel Rockwell.
The subject was a private in Company A, 29th Georgia Infantry
at that time. Caleb also appears on a muster roll of Company B,
1st Regiment. These troops defended Macon, Georgia in November
and December in 1864 and were stationed at Camp Wright near Macon,
Georgia (this was a local company and members were recruited from
various other regiments). The subject is listed as "sick
with fever in general hospital" on a muster roll for July
and September of 1862. Caleb Westberry was wounded on November
30, 1864 near Atlanta, Georgia. He remained in the hospital about
three months before he was able to return home. (His regiment
surrendered at Thomasville, Georgia in 1865 and he was paroled
on May 21, 1865). He was discharged in 1865 and later he received
a Confederate pension for his service. He received the "Southern
Cross of Honor" in 1907. Endorsers: R. H. Strickland and
H. P. Grantham.
Caleb lived out his life as a farmer near Jesup, Wayne County,
Georgia. Caleb's first wife, Mary (Reddish) Westberry, died on
June 9, 1904. His second wife, Dora Price, died on January 19,
1919; they had no children. Caleb died on June 6, 1926 from a
stroke. According to the Clary- Westberry Family Book: "We
always had family prayer at the evening meal- Mother and Dad prayed,
granddaddy Caleb always closed the prayer. I well remember how
he closed the June 5th prayer, 'Father, when you are done with
us here on Earth give us a home in Glory, Amen." We all helped
his plate and he ate a few bites, dropped his spoon and never
did speak again. So, I'd say he closed his life here with a prayer,
and went to that "Home in Glory'. (This statement was apparently
made by a grandchild, although it is not known which one).
Caleb Westberry died on June 6, 1926 and is buried beside his
first wife in the Red Hill Cemetery in Wayne County, Georgia.
(Westberry/Clary Book: Caleb and Mary were married December
2, 1874. They lived most of their life near Bethlehem Church,
about 8 miles from Jesup; about 2 miles from Madray Springs not
far off the Lanes Bridge Road (Hwy. 169). He was a farmer. Mary
died June 9, 1904. Caleb then married Mrs. Dora Price. They lived
in Piney Grove Community at her home place. No Children. When
she died she was buried beside her first husband, Haswell Price,
in Red Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
