for Emory Westberry, 46, of Gardi, ended Tuesday afternoon. He
was found in the cab of his pick-up truck dead from a .22 caliber
(?) shotgun wound. According to Wayne County Sheriff John C.
Reddish's office, two high school youths saw the truck and notified
Troy Fore. Deputy "Nub" Royal said, Fore investigated,
found Westberry and then notified the sheriff's office by phone.
Westberry had disappeared last Wednesday, February 22, and had
been the object of search by National Guardsmen with jeeps and
helicopters Sunday and Monday. He was found in a wooded area
about one and one-half miles from the Hopkins estate in an area
known as the "Old Knight Place." According to Royal,
the road on which the truck was found was a seldom-used road overgrown
with brush. It was about five miles from Grangerville. A veteran
of World War II, Westberry was a native of Wayne County. W. H.
NeSmith, Wayne County Coroner, said a note was left by Westberry.
An inquest will probably be held Thursday, according to NeSmith.
